Peripheral PRC1 RCA Level Controller Review
First of all, I can't believe I came across this product. This Peripheral PRC1 RCA Level Controller is a must have for people installing aftermarket amplifiers in their cars and don't want to buy an after market head unit.I have a 2006 Civic, and installed a Precision Power amp (300 watts RMS bridged) and a 15" Kicker Solobaric sub woofer. I kept everything else stock. When I first installed the amp and sub, I noticed that the only way I could adjust the sub amp volume 'on the fly' was through the cars factory radio bass control. The only other way to adjust the volume was the gain on the amp and/or the gain on the line out converter which I tapped into my rear speakers (I used a stinger line-out converter also purchased from Amazon). The downside to that is you can't adjust these things while driving, and for people who have the 8th generation Civics, you know that when you switch from Aux In to CD, the volume level, especially on the bass, is increased out of control, to the point that the bass needs to be turned to negative 4 so that the interior stock woofers don't distort. Anyway, this Peripheral PRC1 RCA Level Controller allows you to run the RCA cable from the line out converter to the controller input, and then output RCA cables from said controller to the amplifier's input. No power or even ground necessary! I put this controller in my center console so that I can adjust the volume level going into the amp as I'm driving! I use it all the time! I mostly use the Aux In on the Civic which needs tweaking as MP3 bit-rates are not all the same. I can balance out the bass throughout the car, or just crank up the controller volume if I want that extra thump as I'm driving down the road!! But, where this Peripheral PRC1 RCA Level Controller really does it's job is when I switch to the CD player and the bass needs to be lowered so much so the sub woofer does not drown out the interior speakers.
I am soooo happy with this product. This eliminated the need to buy an aftermarket head unit with the RCA's which come out of the rear of the unti and of course has the RCA level control built into the unit. For $20 for the Peripheral PRC1 RCA Level Controller, $40 for the Line out converter and car stereo install kit (just a random set of 8 Gauge Power and Ground wires plus smaller 18 Gauge or so speakers wires along with a fuse block for under the hood), 300 Watt PPI amp and 15" Kicker Solobaric amp which were given to me from my brother when he bought a new car, I spent approximately $60 as I did the install myself on a system that I honestly have to tell you is so loud and clear, that I have blown people away when they have seen the install and heard the system.
Again, I recommend this product to anyone wishing to achieve the same results or if you just need RCA level control with the ease of a compact design.
