I have an older Zalman CPU fan that was originally used with a socket 775 processor and needed this for use with an i7 socket 1156 and it did the trick. All the parts are solid, even the plastic bit. When so many other manufacturers make you buy a whole new cooler because the mounting configuration changes I'm feeling pretty smug about buying from the one that sells upgrade parts.
